Allie Hunter is a nationally recognized public health leader specializing in innovative approaches to syringe litter reduction and overdose prevention.

Like many families, overdose and substance use has been part of the story of Allie’s family. This is why she wanted to create an age-appropriate, nonjudgmental, and simple tool to empower young people with the skills and confidence to help in the event of an overdose.

This book was created with and inspired by Allie’s family. Her niece Sofie took all the photos, and her niece Emma is the central character of the story. Allie’s sister Nicole also appears in the book, and several other family members provided insights and feedback based on their lived and living experience.

Overdose response is a universal safety skill that people of all ages can learn, just like other basic safety skills. This book is meant to be read aloud or with a grown-up, so it can introduce the topic in an approachable way and open up questions and conversation.

From our family to yours, thank you for reading.
